Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn

As a kid, my Gram always told me I looked like Audrey Hepburn. Back then, I had absolutely no clue who she was, but now that I’m older (and much, much wiser) – I find it an absolute honor that my Gram compared me to such a style legend. In my book, Audrey is the epitome of effortless beauty.

Known for her roles in films like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and “Roman Holiday”, the public almost immediately fell in love with Hepburn thanks to her beauty and class. While she was deemed one of the “sex symbols” of the time, she was also known for her amazing style. And that style is still praised to this day.

Her style simply seemed effortless, which is why she was praised and loved by so many. She didn’t take the over-the-top glam role like so many other actresses at the time did. She kept her attire basic, but made those solid colors and simple cuts seem so elegant.

When she did choose to go more “Hollywood Glam”, she was the epitome of class and beauty. Never looking too overdone or flashy, Audrey was a timeless beauty that inspired generations and will continue to do so. This classic shot can be found gracing many bedroom walls and has become one of the most famous photographs of Ms. Hepburn.

While Audrey’s style and beauty will live on for years to come, doesn’t it make you wish more celebrities today were more like her? Now-a-days, we see dresses on the red carpet that are too revealing, unflattering, or downright gaudy. Taking a step back to look at how beautiful Audrey made the simplest outfit gives me a whole new appreciation for her.

So here’s to Audrey. A woman who could be seen as a “sex symbol” while dressing conservatively. A woman who truly defined the term “a natural beauty”. And most of a all – a woman who will inspire other women for many many years to come.

We’re Bringing Vintage Back!

When you think of the word vintage, what comes to mind? Is it a unique antique shop find? Or maybe you think more along the lines of a beautiful dress worn by your grandmother in old photos? Regardless, the vintage style is back in a very big way and it’s definitely playing into the trends for fall 2011.

The vintage look is all about those warm, inviting colors. Think about it – you don’t really associate hot pink and lime green with vintage, now do you? Think more along the lines of a flirty rose color or a warm mocha hue. Now you’ve got the right look in mind!

We’ve put together this adorable outfit to show you just how chic a vintage look can be. And even though the dress has somewhat of a modern twist, it’s subtle pleating, conservative top, and rose color give it a vintage edge:

Long sleeves make it absolutely perfect for chillier weather, as well!

And see that adorable piece acting as the perfect compliment? That’s the “Antique Shop Find” necklace. What a perfect name for accomplishing a truly vintage style! Here is a closer look:

This adorable piece looks like it’s straight out of an estate sale!

A great fashion tip to follow is that when you’re wearing a single color, adding a pop of detail with a necklace like this is an absolute must. The detailing on the little pot itself is amazing, so pairing it with a piece like the dress above will really allow it to shine. The “tarnished gold” look is also a cute way to pull off that vintage style.

So now that you’re well aware that vintage is back and bigger than ever – what will you use to inspire your style? Will it be a 1930′s style floral pattern? Or maybe you’ll go digging through old photographs to see *just how adorable* your grandmother was back in glory days. No matter what you choose, you’ll be on top of the trends looking sweet and innocent.

.. Even though you’re already as sweet and innocent as they get … right? Hehe :)

Rabito Has Arrived!

The Rabito iPhone case has landed & here at Chloe Chic – we could not be more excited! Not only is it perfect for iPhone 4 users, how on earth can you pass up a cell phone cover that turns your must-have device into an adorable bunny? You simply can’t!

Aside from the fact that it has adorable written all over – it’s actually a really functional phone case. Right now, Rabito offers phone cases for both the iPhone 4 and the Galaxy S II smart phone. While there are a few different styles available, we can’t stop ogling the adorable iPhone 4 version, equipped with ears and a fluffy little tail.

But don’t let that cute little tail fool you. That fluff ball is actually quite helpful. Since it is detachable, you can use it to clean your screen with no risk of scratching the surface. If you find yourself constantly cleaning off your touch screen with your shirt/pants/skirt/etc… – you’ll love Rabito’s functional tail. You can use the tail as a stand, as well. It’s ideal if you find yourself watching movies or music videos on your phone often. Simply set it down on a flat surface and the tail will prop your phone up for perfect hands-free viewing.

If you listen to music on your phone, you can use either the tail or ears to wind your ear buds, as well. We’ve all been there: you pull your phone out and your ear buds have become a tangled mess. It’s annoying and downright frustrating to try and untangle them! So save yourself that extra 15 minutes of cord twisting and pulling with Rabito!

Rabito has been popping up all over the place, and we love it! From magazines to the grocery store – it seems that no matter where we look, Rabito is there! Take advantage of this absolutely adorable trend and equip your iPhone today!

I spy Rabito!

Reach Your MAXImum Style Potential!

The days of short shorts and mini skirts have seemingly come and gone. While it’s fun to spice things up every now and then with a shorter piece – it seems as though the dawn of a new hemline is upon us.

It’s trendy, it’s feminine, and most of all – it’s totally comfortable.

It’s the MAXI!

The maxi look is classified by floor length skirts and dresses. While it’s been around for quite some time, it has recently gained some serious popularity If you’re looking for a comfortable piece that’s easy to dress up or down – a maxi dress can’t be beat.

Alot of women shy away from maxi dresses because they’re afraid of them looking too “baggy”, but this is extremely simple to overcome. Choose a maxi dress that features a defined waist. This will allow it to not only achieve that maxi style, but will also provide a figure flattering look.

This maxi dress features a cinched waist slightly above the natural waistline. It’s perfect for all body types & will accentuate an “hourglass” figure.

This maxi features more of an empire waist, which is great for smaller chested women because it puts emphasis on the bust.

But the maxi style isn’t just great on dresses. This season, the maxi skirt is “IN” in a very big way. The key to wearing a maxi skirt properly is to cinch the waist. You can do this quite easily by adding a decorative belt in a complimentary color. Wear with a tight fitting, tucked in top and you’ll be ready to go. Take this elegant piece for example:

The included, light brown belt is the perfect way to give this maxi a figure flattering twist. While it may seem like a small detail to the piece, it can add just enough accent to take your look to the next level:

Love the belt loops & pleats!

So whether you’re new to the maxi trend or you’re a seasoned veteran looking to add a few new pieces for this season – use these beautiful examples as inspiration! For fall weather, they’ll provide the coverage and comfort you need. So skip the mini skirt and slip into a maxi!

Fall Trend Alert: Flirty Patterns

While color blocking and basic prints have been quite popular lately, this Fall has taken a different approach to patterns. Flirty, girly prints are huge for this season and we have chosen three of our favorites to highlight.

Florals and Lace and Dots… Oh my!

Florals have come and gone when it comes to trendiness, but muted hues with pops of color are showing up left and right for Fall 2011. Instead of choosing an “in-your-face” print, full of pinks and purples and brighter shades, choose a more neutral color scheme that is accented subtly with colorful pops here and there.

This sweet dress is perfectly paired with a cardigan and boots for brisk fall weather. Muted shades of mauve, green, and brown are highlighted with bursts of coral to make for a perfect floral print.

Lace is amazingly popular for Fall 2011. It’s always added just the right amount of “sexy” to a piece, but there are so many different ways to wear this gorgeous fabric. Layered lace is very prevalent this season, and it’s showing up on everything from skirts to dresses to cardigans. Take this adorable, vintage-style dress for example:

Such a gorgeous piece. Thicker lace in the bodice is complimented by a flowing, sheer skirt that is accented with pops of lacey pattern within the skirt and along the hem line.

Finally, how much fun are polka dots?! I’m so excited to see this fun and flirty pattern making a comeback for this season. Polka dots work on just about everything – cardigans, tights, dresses, etc… But the key is to wear them the right way. While a polka dot dress looks great on its own, pairing it with a polka dot cardigan or polka dot tights might be a bit over the top. Limit your dots to one article per outfit and you’ll be sitting on top of the style charts this fall.

Simple dots that form an intricate pattern, like the ones on the dress above, are the perfect way to pull off the modern polka dot.

So when you’re heading out to fill your closet for fall, keep these flirty patterns in mind. Whether you’re a fan of floral, a lover of lace, or a die hard for dots – these prints will have you sitting on top of the style charts this season.  Happy shopping, fashionistas!

Who Knew Mom was a Trend Setter?

As kids and teenagers, we probably weren’t looking at our mothers for fashion tips. But now that we’re older (and much, much wiser), those older snapshots of mom may be making us think twice about that. Her retro/vintage style is back in a big way, and it’s actually one of the most popular looks for the season ahead.

When I think of the 50′s and 60′s, I get this picture in my head of a high school dance. A decade ago, we’d have thought those dresses were terribly outdated… but now? Now I’d die to have something like them in my closet! Fitted waists, sweetheart necklines, and just the perfect amount of tulle underneath. They gave that ultimate “high school sweetheart” look. Luckily, vintage is in – and I can pick up something right along the lines of the dress in my vision:

Can’t get enough of that fitted waist and flaired out skirt!

Looking at pictures of mom from back in her glory days also makes me envious of how easy her style was. She pulled off some of the cutest things in such an effortless style. Breezy button downs, chic blouses paired with casual jeans… she could do it all. So I’ve taken note from that and found that a cute, fun, and comfy piece on top paired with something simple on the bottom, like leggings, mimics this “effortless” style. The empire waist and slightly flaired out bottom put a retro twist on this classic piece:

Gotta love that vintage-style collar, as well!

So even if you weren’t aware of it back in your day, it’s never too late to let Mom know that she was (or maybe still is) quite the fashionista. I’m sure she’ll not only appreciate the compliment, but she might not mind a quick walk down memory lane, either. And who knows? Maybe she has a few of those cute dresses packed away that she could dig out for you!

Here’s to you, Mom!
