Fuzzy Fall Fashion

By Liz Bey.

Fall fashion and outfits have started to pop up already, even with it only being the middle of July. That’s the fashion industry for you – one season ahead of us! But I love all the fuzzy, warm items starting to come out. I love summer becasue of all the short, breezy, bright colors we can wear — but fall has all the layers and deep, rich colors I love as well. (Just don’t tell the weather to turn back anytime soon – I want to keep this heat!)

A favorite Chloe Chic piece of mine I’ve had my eye on since I first discovered them was the versitility that the clothing can be. What I’m talking about is how they use a big warm scarf as a shawl as well! Mind blown – great idea! So I used a neutral colored one to spark  your imagination for the upcoming fall months.

Are you starting your fall wardrobes yet?

Chilly Chick Scarf in Taupe.

I’ve always said that if you have a great base you can dress it up however you like – a few summers ago I learned this myself. I followed a blog that gave the challenge to wear just a simple blue jeans & white tank outfit and to dress it up with my own style. I’ve taken that concept to heart and picked a pair of dark navy flair jeans and long sleeve white shirt for this outfit.

Pairing it with the taupe colored Chilly Chick Scarf from Chloe Chic would be a perfect layering piece and keep you warm once the weather turns. Then bring in some color with these jewled booties for some pop.

A Novice’s Guide to Seattle

Seattle’s Public Market

I visited Seattle last weekend and I was really impressed with the funky neighborhoods that I found. We stayed in Pikes Place, home to the first Starbucks in Seattle’s world famous Public Market. You can find just about everything at this market—located right on the waterfront—from organic produce to original chess makers. Since it was Bastille Day, we stumbled upon a fête at a bar with a live French band and French food. There were tons of restaurants, shops, and hotels in this area, which is considered to be part of Seattle’s downtown.

The next day we started in Fremont. This little neighborhood hosts the famous “Fremont Troll,” which is a giant troll built from sand and dirt clasping an old VW Bug in his hand. It’s a pretty strange site but it jives with the neighborhood’s offbeat vibe. We ate breakfast at a Buddhist inspired vegetarian diner then headed to another market with tons of consignment vendors. The boutiques in Fremont ranged from second hand to high end. We also visited a giant consignment shop called, The Fremont Vintage Mall, that basically transported us back to 1976. My Dad commented that he “lived this era and needed to leave,” so we got out of there pretty quickly.

Next we drove through the University District where the University of Washington is located. It seemed like your typical college neighborhood, with tons of bars and young people shuffling around with backpacks. It seemed like a fun area and I regretted not having more time to spend there.

We made our last stop at Capitol Hill. This is probably the most eclectic area I found in Seattle. The rainbow flags stood proudly on every corner, representing the predominantly gay population of this neighborhood. We even had lunch at a restaurant that hosted a drag show while we ate.

Well known chains like American Apparel and Urban Outfitters shared blocks with original boutiques, but my favorite shop happened to be a second hand store called, The Crossroads Trading Co. To me it was like the Wal-Mart of second hand stores. It was MASSIVE. It offered designer brands like BCBG and Gucci along with every name brand you could think of.

I also liked Capitol Hill because I witnessed the fashion of Seattle. It seems cliché to equate Seattle style with grunge, but it was exactly that. I saw a lot of Converse sneakers, plaid shirts, stockings with shorts, and brightly colored hair. They were able to pull off stylish grunge very well. If anything I wanted to stay longer to experience this hip neighborhood, but sadly my trip came to an end the next day.

Let’s Rock n’ Roll!

As everyone here at Chloe Chic knows, I just moved back to England. While this has been a very exciting time for me, my sunshine-filled, humid summer days and balmy summer nights in Washington, D.C. have been replaced by much cooler temperatures and, of course, rain! I have replaced light and flowing tank tops with layers and cardigans or sweaters and I feel as though I need a few light-weight scarves.

Ever since Chloe Chic received its most recent collection of new arrivals, I have had my eye on the super edgy and fun “Let’s Rock n’ Roll” scarf. I absolutely love the colour combination (grey with pink skulls) and I love the idea of creating a punk rock accent to an otherwise feminine outfit. I think I was drawn to this specific scarf because it reminds me of some of Alexander McQueen’s scarves and as we all know, McQueen is one of my favourite designers (see my post “Marvel at McQueen” May 2012 below). While many of us who observe and are passionate about fashion quite often attempt to buy and wear our beloved designers or observed trends, few of us can actually afford those high end prices (at least I know I can’t!) So when you finally find a piece that reminds you of your favourite and it’s a great price, you know you’ve really found something special that you will treasure as a part of your wardrobe. At least, that’s how I feel about Chloe Chic’s “Let’s Rock n Roll” scarf for only $19.99!! It will be practical for me while adjusting to the colder weather here in England AND it emulates my favourite designer’s signature pieces without being a ‘rip off’ or a copy-cat. The scarf remains a true and unique Chloe Chic piece due to it’s soft pink colouring and the tassels. These subtle elements transform the scarf from a McQueen-esque piece into a Chloe Chic piece due to the touches of simple femininity that is very Chloe Chic.

The “Sweet and Sour” scarf by Chloe Chic is similar to the “Let’s Rock n’ Roll” scarf and was also a part of the latest collection. Similarly, it is an edgy piece but draws even more attention due to its bright yellow colour. This particular scarf not only showcases the punk rock skull pattern, but it also falls into the neon/bright colour trend that has been so prevalent this summer.

So with a practical purpose for the scarf in mind and ideal price provided by Chloe Chic, I went ahead and ordered the “Let’s Rock n’ Roll” scarf! I am so excited for it to arrive!! These scarves will look great when paired with a simple daytime outfit such as jeans, a plain t-shirt, and a cardigan or layers under a denim or light-weight jacket. I may also try to pair my new scarf with black pants, heels, and black or white chiffon top for semi-casual evenings out in London. Stylish, edgy, and warm!

Summer Concert Fashion

By Liz Bey.

I don’t know about you, but recently I’ve been getting into the concert scene again. I’ve also been bombarded with clothing store emails telling me “concert bras & bralettes” and “concert t’s” or “summer music festival outfits.” Some I’ve liked, others I’ve not. So I wanted to try my own hand at it – Chloe Chic style.

With it being summer and the temperatures at all time highs having something to keep you cool is key, that is why I thought a fun, flirty dress in a great fresh color like the Sugar Baby Dress would be a great focal point. It’s swingy and summery and has a bit of sex appeal.

Since I imagine most concerts going into the cooler night hours, or even being in doors I thought an awesome black leather jacket would be perfect. The jacket gives a little rock, a little roll and just enough hard edge to pump up your outfit. Finally I just love some funky heels for summer like the ones I found for my outfit. I finished the outfit off with a simple, multi-chain necklace for a tad bit more edge.

My favorite part of this outfit is the versatility. You could take this outfit out to the bar for a couple drinks after the concert or even to dinner beforehand.

Biking is so Chic

By: Maureen Connors-McBride

In an attempt to save money I decided to start biking. I assumed that my work commute from Squirrel Hill to the Southside—just four short miles—would be easy enough, and Pittsburgh seemed like a bike friendly city. Well, my assumption wasn’t completely incorrect: the distance was short and Pittsburgh is bike friendly, but it wasn’t easy!—(at least not as easy as I had imagined). I run to keep in shape so I assumed I was prepared to bike eight miles per day, but the burning in my quads told me otherwise. It took a good month before I got used to the ride and began to move efficiently, but after I overcame that initial hump I really started to enjoy it. I took my bike out for leisure rides, to the grocery store, or to meet friends. I even gave it a name—Lady—after its classy white color. I accessorized the bike with bells and a basket, which inspired me to investigate accessorizing further. In my search I found that biking and fashion actually go together, and it’s called “cycle chic.” I’ve posted some of my favorite  Chloe Chic pieces that could also be cycle chic. Enjoy!

Americana trend for the Fourth of July

While it seems a bit ironic writing this post from Bath, England, I thought I’d still touch on one of the hottest trends this summer: American flag-inspired everything. After all, tomorrow is, of course, the Fourth of July in the United States!

The Americana look emerged about a month or so ago with t-shirts, tank tops, crop tops, and bathing suits proudly displaying the American flag. Then, denim jackets with vintage-looking prints of the stars and stripes appeared along with denim shorts, also flag-inspired. This trend couldn’t have emerged at a more fitting time- in the months gearing up to the Fourth of July.

Stars and stripes everywhere!

This trend is super easy to follow and you can even refer to various other blogs or Pinterest to find fun DIY ideas to create your own Americana apparel.

All you need is one American flag-inspired piece and then pair with denim or some form of red or blue. If feeling particularly funky and festive at this Fourth of July’s parties and BBQs, you could also pair your Americana with an edgy vest, such as Chloe Chic’s Wild Child vest, in order to break up the red, white, and blue and add your own, unique twist to the trend.

Throw on your old school Converse sneakers for a super casual Americana look or cute wedges for a more girly, chic look and get ready to be the most patriotic and fashionable guest at Fourth of July celebrations!
